Joyce Elizabeth Roden (née Riggs), a humble servant of God was called to her eternal rest on Feb. 22, 2024, at the age of 83 in Creede, Colo. Born March 27, 1940, in Big Spring, Texas, her life was a testament to the virtues of faith, hope, and charity.

Professionally, Joyce served with humility as a bookkeeper in the banking industry. She was known for her meticulous attention to detail and strong work ethic.

Joyce's leisure time was an extension of her love for creation through sewing and painting. Her time was a cherished gift that she bestowed upon her family, including her daughters, grandchildren, and the extended family of her community, through acts of selfless volunteering. Joyce was a devoted member of the Creede Baptist Church.

The legacy of Joyce's love is carried forth by her children Melanie (Bo) Freedle, Rhonda (Duane) Young, and Jeff (Nancy) Roden; her six grandchildren Kimberly Cain, Justin Roden, Jordan Roden, Isabelle Freedle, Casper Freedle, and Zachary Young; and one great-granddaughter, Kyla Rhoades.

She now joins in Heaven her earthly ancestors, including her parents Jefferson H Riggs and Lora Gobbel Riggs; her brothers Felton Riggs, Delbert Riggs, and Tommy Riggs; her sister Jackie Phillips (Harris); and her beloved spouse of over four decades, Van D Roden.

A Celebration of Joyce's life, a life lived in the grace of God's love, will be held on Monday, March 11, 2024, at 11 a.m. at the Creede Baptist Church in Creede, Colo. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that offerings be made in Joyce's memory to Operation Christmas Child as expressions of our collective gratitude. A fundraising page has been set up on her behalf at https://fundraise.samaritanspurse.org/fundraiser/5305599 or to the Creede Baptist Church-Operation Christmas Child Nana.

Creede Baptist Church in Creede, Colo., will be assisting the family with services as they prepare to honor Joyce's journey of faith and the gentle footprint she leaves on the sands of time.
