As bears enter hyperphagia, CPW reminds residents of bear aware responsibilities

Colorado Parks and Wildlife has received over 3,800 bear-incident reports so far since April 1, most involving bears trying to access food sources. The number of reports is expected to grow as bears enter hyperphagia, the period of preparing for hibernation when bears spend up to 20 hours a day on the hunt for 20,000 or more calories.

Del Norte tops Sargent for second win of season

Volleyball is already off to a furious pace. While football is looking to settle in for many of their first games this weekend, volleyball is already getting a feel for where they fit in within the state. Del Norte (2-3) is already five games into their season picking up win No. 2 over league rival Sargent (0-2) last Thursday night in a 3-1 match.

Pirates suffer loss in season opener

On their home opener, the Mean Moose made halftime adjustments and distanced themselves from a once competitive game to run away with a 40-14 win over the visiting Monte Vista Pirates.

  • Monte Vista golf hosts home meet

    The Pirates were home to start the weekend hosting a golf meet at the Monte Vista Golf Club. Alamosa was in attendance and took second place with a combined team score of 231 finishing in second place behind the Montezuma-Cortez Panthers. Monte Vista finished in fourth place with a combined team of 253.
