The Monte Vista VFW Post hosted a patriotic art contest with the assistance of Monte Vista High School art teacher Dan Garcia. The entries were judged at the local VFW Post and submitted for a statewide contest. None of the local entries won statewide prizes, which included a $10,000 scholarship but the VFW was proud of the effort put into each submission. MVHS Junior Luis Espinosa won first place and received a certificate and $50. Danielle Chacon won second place and $25 and Kendra Stonefield won third place and $15.
