Tu Casa expands its programming to meet the needs of survivors

SAN LUIS VALLEY — Tu Casa, Inc. is excited to announce they will be offering a safe space for women in the community to come together and talk about their experiences surrounding domestic violence.
Tu Casa, Inc. is an organization with the mission to empower all adults and children to lead healthy, violence free lives. They offer their services to all genders that experience intimate partner abuse; yet, they do recognize that domestic violence is an issue that is largely experienced by women. Tu Casa, Inc. is keeping their upcoming peer groups specific to women at this time; however they do not negate, deny or minimize the intimate partner violence that is perpetrated against genders other than females. Tu Casa, Inc. simply wants to keep the space for women who have experienced violence as comfortable as possible in order to feel secure when talking about what they have gone through.
Jennifer Hanna, a victim advocate at Tu Casa, Inc. is steering the project. In regards to this service, she stated “I have been so inspired by the stories and the strength that I hear every day, from those I get to know through my work here at Tu Casa. I’m truly not doing anything extraordinary — all I’m doing is giving the room where these amazing individuals can meet to foster the strong force that is there among them. The connection survivors have is a very powerful and unique thing.”
The pillars to the peer groups will be confidentiality and support. The first group session will be held on the 9th of October, and will reoccur every second Tuesday of the month from 5-6 p.m., at the SLV Health Foundation Education and Conference Center at 1921 Main Street in Alamosa. Refreshments and childcare will be provided onsite.
Tu Casa, Inc. would like to extend an invitation to the women in the community who have experienced or are currently experiencing intimate partner violence to join in these peer groups, no matter how recent or long ago the abuse occurred. Your participation is impactful, important, and appreciated. For more information, please contact Jennifer Hanna at 719-589-2465.
