Stephanie L. Miner 5K Walk and Run held

Mary Motz and her granddaughter Beth Streeter cross the finish line of the 14th Annual Stephanie L. Miner 5K Walk and Run on Saturday, Sept. 23. Motz’s daughter Stephanie, the namesake of the race, died of breast cancer and 100 percent of the proceeds go to completing the new cancer center at San Luis Valley Health, which broke ground this summer and is expected to open in early 2018.

Cancer survivors from around the community gathered around Bev Hettinger’s quilt at Cole Park in Alamosa before escorting racers to the start line for the 14th Annual Stephanie L. Miner 5K Walk and Run. The quilt was auctioned for $900 to Duane Bussey.
