SLV unemployment rate continues to be below state level

RG County unemployment rate 4.9%

SAN LUIS VALLEY – The Colorado Department of Labor and Unemployment (CDLU) recently released October 2020 unemployment rates for San Luis Valley counties.


Recently released Colorado unemployment figures from the CDLU for October 2020 indicate that the unemployment rate in the San Luis Valley (SLV) continues to decline and to fare better than the statewide and national unemployment rates.


The average unemployment rate for Colorado in October was 6.2%.  Nationwide the unemployment rate increased in October to 6.9%. In the San Luis Valley among the 21,604 labor force in October there were 20,521 employed and 1,083 unemployed or a 5.1% unemployment rate for the SLV.


The SLV county with the lowest unemployment rate in October 2020 was Conejos County with 4.1% unemployment. Rio Grande County had the second lowest employment rate in the Valley with 4.9% unemployed. Mineral County had 5.6% unemployment followed by  Alamosa County with a 5.3% unemployment rate.  Costilla County once again had the highest unemployment rate in the SLV with 6.2% unemployed.
