MONTE VISTA — May 28 was a warm, windy and sunny day for the Glen Martinez Veterans Scholarship Golf Tournament which was a 4-Man Team Scramble beginning at 10 a.m. and consisting of 15 Teams from different parts of the San Luis Valley with participants from Denver, South Dakota, Kansas and Florida.

The team of John Allen, Chad Hess and Jeremy MacDonald from Kansas had a 2-way tie for first place with a score of 64 with the team of Jacob Jiron, Vicente Barbosa, Brandon Cordova and Greg Castro of Monte Vista with a score of 64.

A Score Card Playoff was calculated and John Allen’s team from Kansas won first place by one point which they turned around and donated their Gift Certificate for golfing at Colorado City at the Holly Dot Golf Course so, Jacob Jiron’s team took first place with a score of 64, second-place winners with a score of 67 was the team of Lyle Dye, Rich Stecklien, Todd Harrison and Will Albertson winning a gift certificate to play golf at the Alamosa Cat Tails Golf Course and therefore, the Martinez family decided to award the last-place team of Jeri Gonzales, Aadin Gonzales, Lottie Whitmer and Anne Henningsen with a score of 86 the gift certificate to Salida Golf Course.

The Martinez family thanked all those participants who came out to enjoy a day of golfing and the volunteers who so graciously fried the hamburgers and hot dogs, Phyllis and Bob Gil.
