Serious injuries sustained by one in pickup-tractor collision

RIO GRANDE COUNTY— The Colorado State Patrol is investigating a pickup truck versus tractor rollover crash on Colorado 15 at County Road 1 South involving serious injury to the driver of the pickup truck occurring on Sunday, June 30.

At approximately 1 p.m. a blue and white 1994 Chevy 2500 pickup truck driven by Steve Edwards, 52, of Del Norte, was traveling northbound on Colorado 15. A John Deere 4250 1995 tractor driven by Ted Miller, 30, of Monte Vista, was also traveling northbound on Colorado 15.

The Edwards pickup truck passed the tractor on the left when the tractor attempted to make a left turn westbound from Colorado 15 onto County Road 1 South. The Edwards pickup truck collided with the front hydraulic lift of the tractor and then yawed 55’ across the northwest side of the intersection. The Edwards vehicle then traveled off the northwest side of the intersection for 65’ rotating clockwise one-quarter turn before rolling one time into a drainage ditch coming to rest on its wheels facing east.

The tractor involved sustained moderate damage and was moved from final rest prior to officer arrival. The Edwards party was transported by ambulance to the San Luis Valley Regional Medical Center in Alamosa with serious injury where he was flown to Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs for further treatment.

A passenger in the Edwards vehicle identified as Jennifer Marina, 40, of Alamosa, and the tractor driver (Ted Miller) both sustained minor injuries and were not transported. The accident remains under investigation at this time.
