Sargent defeats Del Norte in Siren Game for Homecoming

...

MONTE VISTA— Sargent forced a running clock against Del Norte in a 53-15 affair that was another feather in the cap of the Farmers as the volleyball team defeated South Park the same night.

Friday carried a lot of weight, being the annual Siren Game between Del Norte and Sargent as well as being Sargent’s homecoming game and the Farmers came out with a fire in their belly, taking their first drive 43 yards and capping it with a Trevor Milne touchdown adding an extra point to go up 7-0. A three and out from Del Norte put the Farmers 64 yards out, which they covered in three plays for Ryan Davis’ first of the night the Farmers would miss the extra point.

A turnover on downs gave the Farmers another possession, which they turned into six points off a connection from Davis to Eddy Gonzales from 14 yards out a two point conversion making it 21-0. The first of two for the pair.

Del Norte found the success in the passing game they had been looking for all night when Keegan Medina found Carlos Parra streaking on a post, Parra would brush off a would be tackler to go the distance for an impressive 61 yard touchdown.

It was too little and too late as that was the Tigers' lone score until late in the fourth quarter. Del Norte was later slowed by having to move one of their pass catchers Izeah Peterson under center when Keegan Medina caught a wicked shot to the back of the head and underwent concussion protocol keeping him off the field for the remainder of the first half.

Sargent poured it on in the second quarter with three more touchdowns to go up 50-7 before the half ran out. With a running clock for the extent of the second half Sargent took up the entire third quarter with one drive that was punctuated by a Eddy Gonzalez field goal from 24 yards out to extend the lead to 46 points.

The final quarter was accented by another Medina to Parra connection with a two point conversion making it 53-15. Going forward Sargent will have to avoid temptation to overlook 1-6 Sanford next week for the 5-1 Mancos Blue Jays the week in a game that will likely decide the A-8 Southwest league. Del Norte has calmer waters ahead of them as they face Sangre De Cristo and Nederland who have a combined 1-10 record.
