Rio Grande County Sheriff Norton to seek re-election

RIO GRANDE COUNTY— Long-time Rio Grande County Sheriff Brian Norton announced he will run again for sheriff.
He said he will seek re-election as a write-in candidate.
“Due to the outpouring of support from the citizens of Rio Grande County, I am announcing my candidacy for Rio Grande County sheriff,” he said.
Norton began his law enforcement career in the San Luis Valley 30 years ago as a police officer with the Monte Vista Police Department where he worked for three years. He then accepted a position with Rio Grande County Sheriff’s Office. He advanced rank within the office and was appointed undersheriff, a position he held for nine years.
Norton ran for Rio Grande County Sheriff in 2002 and took office in 2003. He has now served 16 years as sheriff and looks forward to serving another four-year term.
“To vote for me this election you will need to write my name, Brian Norton, on the ballot for re-election as Rio Grande County Sheriff. The rules state that you must also spell my name correctly for your vote to count,” Norton explained.  
“Thank you for your continued support. It has been very humbling to have so many of you ask  me to run for another term. I will do everything within my power to provide you with responsible, respectable and reliable law enforcement.”
