Group will be hosting a theatre event to help sponsor care packages

MONTE VISTA — Eadon Lawson of Monte Vista was proudly sent off as a newly enlisted Navy Sailor by the Proud Military Parents Support group in a ceremony held on Saturday, June 4.

Alberto Galvan of Monte Vista was proudly sent off as a newly enlisted Marine by the Proud Military Parents Support group held on Saturday, June 11.

The group also invited everyone to attend a showing of the movie “Taking Chances.” “Taking Chances” is a true story based on the recollections of US Marine Lt. Col. Michael Strobl.

Strobl traveled with the remains of Lance Cpl. Chance Phelps, a Marine who was fatally wounded by gunfire during the Iraq War. Strobl attended Phelps’s funeral and memorial service and wrote an essay about the entire experience.

Donations will be taken at the showing of the movie and there will be nachos, and T-shirts for sale along with chance drawings. All proceeds will go toward care packages for the holiday season.

The movie will be shown on June 16, at 7 p.m. at the Vali 3 Theatre in Monte Vista.
