MVPD: Two minors arrested following prank armed robbery  

MONTE VISTA — Two minors were arrested Sunday, May 2, following a prank armed robbery, the Monte Vista Police Department reported.   

At approximately 2:15 p.m. on Sunday, MVPD received a 911 call regarding an armed robbery in the 400 block of Washington Street. Officers met with two juvenile victims who reported a male, wearing a black hoodie and an orange ski mask robbed them at gunpoint of money.   

An emergency notification was sent to the surrounding area where a citizen reported seeing the suspect run through an alley.    

Officers located a ski mask matching the description in an alley in the 500 block of Washington Street, MVPD reported.   

After further investigation, officers determined one of the victims and another juvenile staged the robbery as a prank to scare the other victim. Officers recovered a black BB gun, which resembled a real handgun.    

Two juveniles were taken into custody on suspicion of attempted aggravated robbery, felon menacing and obstructing a police officer charges.  The Alamosa County Sheriff’s Office tracking K9 responded and helped track the route of the suspect.    

The Alamosa County Sheriff’s Office and the Colorado State Patrol assisted the Monte Vista Police Department. The Monte Vista Police Department appreciates the assistance from the citizen in locating the mask used in the robbery.
