Monte Vista Police Sargent Eugene Ortega was also given an award at the last city council meeting recognizing his 10 years of service to the city of Monte Vista.

“It’s rare you see this anymore that you get people that hang around. Too often people jump from job to job. I’m here to present to Sargent Ortega 10 years of service to the citizens of Monte Vista and to the city of Monte Vista,” said Monte Vista Police Chief George Dingfelder when presenting Ortega with the award. Dingfelder later saying, “He (Ortega) gives good solid advice and the citizens of Monte Vista should be very pleased to have someone of his caliber be a part of this community and be policing this community. So, Eugene for 10 years of service congratulations and at least another five.”

Alejandra Quintero being sworn in by Police Chief George Dingfelder at the Thursday, Sept. 3, City Council meeting. Quintero is the first female officer the Department has had in the last 35 years.

“I said from day one, when I was getting hired for this job, the department has to represent the community that we serve. It has to look like the community we serve. So, we are very pleased to have Alejandra here,” said Chief Dingfelder.

Officer Quintero also shared, “I’m super excited to be here. I was born in Monterrey Mexico, I think it’s kind of uncommon for somebody like me from Mexico to come out here and make things happen. I moved here 10 years ago, and my dad brought us here. And I was really mad at him, I was very upset. But I think it was the best thing that ever happened to me, because if that wouldn’t have happened, I wouldn’t be here today.”
