MVPD hires first female officer in 35 years

MONTE VISTA - The Monte Vista Police Department recently hired Alejandra Quintero. Quintero is the first female officer the Department has had in at least 35 years. Born in Monterrey, Mexico, Quintero moved to Colorado 10 years ago. Officer Quintero has been in law enforcement for a year. “I attended school for hospitality management but then joined the police academy once I discovered that was my real passion,” said Officer Quintero.

When asked what made her want to become a police officer Quintero answered saying, “People in law enforcement made a huge positive impact in my life when I was young. If it wasn’t for those people in law enforcement, I am not sure where my life would be today. I hope to one day be that person for somebody else and guide them in a positive way.”

When asked what she hopes she’ll be able to bring to the Monte Vista Police Department and the Monte Vista Community Quintero answered saying, “Being the first female officer is a really huge responsibility. I hope to bring a good image for the department by showing professionalism and friendliness at the same time. I believe I will be a helpful addition to the team as I can speak fluent Spanish as well as some German. I also hope to bring people a level of comfort to where they feel able to approach me for anything they may need. If you see me out there, please feel free to come up and introduce yourself!”

When she is not working, Officer Quintero says she enjoys cooking, traveling, and spending time with her friends and family.
