MONTE VISTA— Monte Vista High School unveiled a new plaque in the school’s cafeteria honoring students who have attended the International Science and Engineering Fair. The school district is proud to be a shining example of many students who have participated in science fair and have qualified to attend the high honor

The plaque honoring the scholars who have walked the hallways of MVHS was unveiled on Tuesday, Feb. 13. The event commemorating the occasion was preceded by the current science fair participants who will take their projects to regionals giving a preview of their scientific investigations.

High School Principal Scott Wiedeman spoke a few words before board of education member and previous high school science teacher Gary Wilkinson and current high school science teacher Loree Harvey took the cover off of the new plaque.

“The real whole starters of this was Gary Wilkinson and his brother Don Wilkinson with the first ISEF participants in 1982. I want to give them a huge round of applause. Mr. Doug Stewart was also a huge part of our science program. I am very proud to be from Monte Vista because of this program. I participated it when I was in high school. As the years go by I am really proud of the (science teachers). There’s a lot more slots to fill but I don’t think it will take us very long to fill them. I also want to thank our kids, past winners and past participants. Our current kids that are participating this year, I think they are going to do really well. I am really proud of what this program is about and where the school is headed,” said Wiedeman.
