MVHS graduate hired as UC Davis director of bands

DAVIS, Calif.—The California Aggie Marching Band at the University of California, Davis will welcome a familiar face as the new director of bands with the hiring of Josh Garcia.
Garcia has become a familiar fixture on campus with his employment in July of 2017 as the assistant director. His love of music began at an early age and was developed through the Monte Vista School District band program.
Garcia is a 2011 graduate of Monte Vista High School, where he graduated with honors. In the fall of 2011 he attended Colorado State University in Fort Collins and studied music education. After earning his Bachelor of Music degree with a concentration in education, he went on to be the director of bands at the Monte Vista School District.
During the 2017-18 school year the UC Davis band, known as the “Cal Aggie Marching Band-Uh!,” performed a halftime show for the Oakland Raiders, won first place in the National Southwest Airlines Chinese New Year Parade and was recognized as one of the most outstanding acts in the San Francisco Pride Parade.
Garcia is excited about the new role he will be embarking on and especially excited to continue to be a part of one of the nation’s oldest collegiate marching bands.
