MVFD annual chili supper Saturday

MONTE VISTA—Come support the Monte Vista Fire Department this Saturday, Nov. 16, from 4-7:30 p.m. for their annual chili supper at the fire department station located at 401 South Broadway Street in Monte Vista.
The Monte Vista Fire Department has currently responded to a variety of calls including fires, car wrecks, gas leaks, medical assists and rescues. The department’s education committee has provided fire education to area schools, community businesses and service organizations throughout the San Luis Valley by donating over 6,600 manhours annually. None of this would be possible without the generosity of the community. With the donations from last year’s chili supper, the department was able to purchase the tools needed to help aid firefighters do their job. In addition, they were also able to purchase education and station supplies.
These tools are vital assets on scene to help the fire department serve and protect the community.
Cash donations are greatly appreciated. Donations allow the fire department to respond 24 hours a day and 365 days a year. Besides responding to fire emergencies, the firefighters are out in the community educating numerous school groups and families on proper fire safety techniques and preparation for disasters and emergencies.
To become better equipped to serve the community the firefighters are consistently taking classes to learn, improve and revisit skills.
