MV Cemetery Association updates community

MONTE VISTA— The Monte Vista Cemetery Association wishes to thank everyone who has supported them in this last year. The board and many others have worked hard to maintain and improve the resting place of loved ones.

Some of the improvements made include: boarding up and securing the old house. Removal of three dead trees early last spring, as well as partnering with Kids Connection at Halloween for a movie night with the community in October. They have put up signage detailing some cemetery policies and installed cameras for surveillance.

The Monte Vista Cemetery will soon have burial records on the Rio Grande County website, and there are plans for a cemetery map kiosk to help with grave location— thanks to a very capable Eagle Scout!
The association’s annual donation letter was met with a generous response. They received many monetary donations as well as mowers and offers of equipment use and the gift of time and volunteerism from the wonderful people in the Valley and all over.

Please remember the board, all work and maintenance is done by volunteers and donations are 100 percent spent on cemetery needs. The association is so thankful for the kindness and consideration  of the fine people and organizations who donate and help. This truly is a community cemetery in perpetual care.
This year over the Memorial Day weekend the association would like to give back to the visitors at the cemetery. They will be there from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Sunday and Monday with a water truck, buckets and brushes to help visitors clean family headstones and plots free of charge.

There will be fresh flowers for sale $1 apiece and six for $5. These can be placed on any grave or plot and are an ecologically compassionate alternative to silk and plastic flowers.

The Monte Vista Cemetery Board thanks all for the continued kindness and support.
