COLORADO CITY — With regional and state play fast approaching Monte Vista and Alamosa’s golfers got a chance to sample their regional qualifying course on Friday morning. Alamosa as a team placed fourth with a team score of 286. As a team Monte Vista placed tenth shooting a 333.
Lora Ortega led Alamosa Friday morning with a score of 92 to take seventh place overall. Ortega got started with back to back par fours bogeying on both. The Alamosa sophomore was thrown a little by the course’s par fives double bogeying on both but worked to even things out getting down to par on two holes during her campaign.
Behind Ortega for Alamosa were teammates Emma Gilmore, Rhiley Hasci who tied for thirteenth place at the meet both girls shooting 97’s. Gilmore would stay close to par for most of the course getting it on some of the shorter holes. Hasci got three pars but saw her score dragged on holes four and five with two triple bogeys. Alyssa Crowther rounded out the Moose squad with a 117.
For the Pirates Gracie Burkhart tied for fourth place with The Classical Academy’s Fionna O’Halloran with a score of 89. Burkhart would be the lone valley golfer at HollyDot to medal. Burkhart was the model of consistency only taking three double bogeys and getting par on four holes.
Behind Burkhart were Alia Baker and Makayla Larimore in 39th and 40th place respectively.
HollyDot golf course will be back in use next week when Region 1 of Class 3A head back to Colorado City for the Regional Meet on May 7th.
