Moose and Pirates perform well at 3A regionals

COLORADO CITY, Colo. — To extend their seasons Alamosa and Monte Vista came out swinging on Hollydot Golf Course last week. A second place finish with a score of 274 advanced Alamosa as a team to the 3A State Championship. Monte Vista placed fifth with a score of 304 and will send Gracie Burkhart and Alyson Baker to Elmwood Golf Course in Pueblo in search of individual titles.
On Tuesday Alana Hackett showed up in a big way for the Moose shooting an 87 to place sixth overall. Hackett stayed consistent on the course, hitting par on seven holes. Behind Hackett teammates Lexi Ortega and Rhiley Hacsi each earned par on five holes to take tenth and 12th places respectively. Ortega closed her day at regionals with an overall score of 92 strokes.  Hacsi shot a 95 in her outing. Emma Gilmore rounded out Alamosa’s squad with an 18th place finish. Gilmore got down to par on four holes to add 102 strokes to the team total.
For Monte Vista Gracie Burkhart earned top placing tying for sixth place shooting an 87. Burkhart earned par on six holes while punching her ticket to the State Championship. Fellow Pirate Alyson Baker placed 14th overall and second on the Pirates with 98 strokes. Baker shot par on holes 2, 8 and 18 on her way to clinching a Championship appearance.
Alamosa and Monte Vista will make a trip to Pueblo on May 21 for the 3A State Championship. The championship will be held on Elmwood Golf Course so named for the bountiful foliage that stocks the course.
