MONTE VISTA — The Monte Vista Pirates celebrated their homecoming last week with a slew of activities and events. Friday the Pirates showed their school pride and paraded through the town of Monte Vista. The parade was a wonderful show of school spirit with two marching bands, floats and homecoming royalty. A good amount of community members also turned out to line the streets and cheer for their Pirates.
After the parade the Pirates returned to the school to have a tailgate party. The tailgate party offered lots of tasty food and fun. There was a pumpkin carving station, carnival games, kiss a pig contest, and much more!
After the tailgate celebrations wrapped up it was time for the Pirates to face off on the football field with the Center Vikings. Despite the chilly temperatures, the Pirates were on fire. At halftime the scores were not looking good for the Vikings with the Pirates at 22 and the Vikings at 0.
During halftime the homecoming court was crowned, with Madison Plane being awarded homecoming queen, and Jarren Chavez given the honor of homecoming king. The Monte Vista school band also put on an exciting performance. To wrapup the halftime, the Pirate’s Cheerleaders wowed the crowd with some impressive stunts.
During the remaining two quarters, the Viking gave their all against the Monte Vista Pirates and put up a good effort. In the end the Monte Vista Pirates won a big homecoming victory. Blowing their competition out of the water with the final scores of Pirates 34 and Vikings 6.
