MONTE VISTA — The Pirates were home to start the weekend hosting a golf meet at the Monte Vista Golf Club. Alamosa was in attendance and took second place with a combined team score of 231 finishing in second place behind the Montezuma-Cortez Panthers. Monte Vista finished in fourth place with a combined team of 253.

Alamosa had a great day on the neighboring course with three Moose finishing in the top 10. Alamosa senior Brenden Crowther finished first at the meet on Friday morning shooting a 72 overall. Crowther was accurate all day going just two over par on the course. The Alamosa senior had a great day collecting birdies on four different holes and collecting pars on 10 other holes.

Also finishing in the top 10 was Alamosa’s Colten Liddell. Liddell earned a 77 overall on the course to place fifth. Liddell also found himself in a groove on the neighboring course. Liddell would find his rhythm on holes 6-8 birdieing on all three. After 18 holes Liddell wrapped his day with four birdies and three pars to go five over par on the course and finish fifth.

Garrett Smith was the third Moose to finish in the top 10 for Alamosa on Friday morning shooting an 82. Smith’s Friday would conclude with him going 12 over par and tying for eighth place.

Monte Vista’s top two golfers would also place in the top 10 at their home meet. In sixth place, Luke Hoffstaetter was the Pirates’ top placer. On the front nine, Hoffstaetter birdied twice on consecutive holes to go under par on hole three. Overall Hoffstaetter finished by shooting a 78 and going 8 strokes over par.
Casin Holder was also in the top 10 for Monte Vista. Holder shot an 82 to tie for 8th place at the meet. Holder was consistent in his Friday showing getting down to par on 10 holes as he worked through the home course. Garrett Hayden finished third for the Pirates, shooting a 93 and placing in a tie for 16th overall.

Monte Vista will get a little downtime as they won’t be back on the course until Sept. 16 for their meet at Pueblo West.
