MONTE VISTA — The Monte Vista Fire Department responded to a grass fire burning along a ditch on 8th Street in Monte Vista shortly after 1 p.m. on Wednesday, March 9, according to MVFD Chief Patrick Sullivan.

The department spent an hour on the scene extinguishing and mopping up the fire that burned approximately an acre along the ditch between Adams and Washington streets. The Colorado Division of Fire Protection and Control assisted on the incident.

Sullivan said even though it is winter the grass is dry and will burn quickly. He said this was the second grass fire the department has dealt with this year, the first coming on Feb. 28.
