Mondragon announces candidacy for county assessor

DEL NORTE—JJ Mondragon has announced her candidacy for the Rio Grande County assessor position that she has held now for four years. Mondragon began her work in the assessor’s office in 1998 as a clerk.

She worked her way up through the ranks and in 2003 was appointed deputy assessor before being elected as the assessor in 2014. “Throughout my career in the [Rio Grande County] Assessor's Office I have taken numerous classes and many hours of continuing education, including administrative procedures, appraisal processes and supervision. I believe it is essential to maintain high levels of education standards in assessment throughout the office to ensure the staff can all perform to the best of our abilities. I have a great staff that is very knowledgeable, friendly and reliable,” said Mondragon.

“I am proud to be a Valley native and to have raised my family in this beautiful part of Colorado. I am mom to three wonderful kids, the youngest of which will graduate high school this May. I enjoy volunteering and helping with the Del Norte Chamber. I graduated from Center High School, before studying at the University of Southern Colorado and Pueblo Community College.

I am very proud to serve the community of Rio Grande County and have enjoyed the challenges in my first term as assessor. I am the best candidate for this job because I have a wealth of experience working in all aspects of the office.

I continue to perform many duties that I had as the deputy, including managing personal property, state assessed property, possessory interest, mineral interests, abstract of values, certifications and overseeing the transfers, along with all the new supervisory and administrative duties that come with being the assessor. I have a lot of plans for improvements in the office that will improve efficiencies and provide a better service to our citizens.

Since I took office I have improved the mapping accuracy, starting with the Town of Del Norte. I plan to migrate to a more efficient software system next year that will be much better for the office and the citizens we serve. I also plan to improve the website,” said Mondragon.
