Margaret Elinor Slout, 99

DEL NORTE— Born in Lebanon, Ore. on May 17, 1919, Margaret Elinor Brown quickly became “daddy’s girl.”
The family settled near Fairview, Mont. to farm and ranch like most families of that era. Margaret learned to cook and keep a neat clean home from her mother, Wilma. She was also happy to join her brother Boyd and father Vaughn out in the fields. At a very young age she loved to ride her horse to visit far off friends.
Taking a job with a local country doctor, Margaret’s strong work ethic, an aptitude for detail and learning were recognized and encouraged. She became a medical lab technician. A new adventure began when she chose to pursue a new career in a new faraway place. Late one summer night in 1941, Margaret got off the bus in Del Norte to start a job as the lab technician at St. Josephs Hospital. She had never met a Catholic Nun before but soon became close friends with several of the Sisters of St Joseph.
Shortly after, as fortune and blessings would have it, Margaret met Bill Slout, a handsome, smart, young man from South Fork at the Del Norte Café. Assured by her new girlfriends that Bill was a good guy, she accepted a dance invitation. They were married Aug. 3, 1942.
After a rewarding career at St Joseph’s Hospital, she took her skills for organization and detail and joined Bill’s new thriving real estate business. Margaret had many additional skills. With husband Bill; she was a master at taking a house and turning it into a home which Bill would at some point sell. They were flipping homes before there was a name for it. They purchased, remodeled, built, sold homes in Del Norte, Monte Vista, South Fork, Tucson, Ariz. and then back in Del Norte. Margaret worked hard at making a house into a home for everyone to enjoy.
Aunt Margie, as she was known, to many was an excellent cook as well as a decorator. With “The Big House” just blocks away from the school, a hot and loving lunch for her nephews Scott, Tyler and KC was a daily event. The lunch group grew as the boys brought friends and girlfriends to Aunty Margie’s Diner... She and Uncle Bill gave of themselves in many ways to all the Brown children during their growing up years and well beyond.
Margaret Slout had many talents, but none greater than being a loving supporting wife and aunt. She formed strong loyal friendships with many in the Valley. Her time on this earth was a blessing to many.
Preceded in her earthly departure are her husband Bill Slout, brother Boyd and his wife Millie, sister-in-law Ileen Hannon and her husband Floyd.
Remaining with loving memories are nieces: Mary Ann Howerton (Bill), Nancy Safay (Bob), nephews: Floyd Hannon (Joan), Scott Brown (Pam), Tyler Brown (Lynne) and Kyle Brown (Darlene).  She was happy to name and talk about her 10 great nieces and nephews, 13 great, great and six great, great, great. All of whom she would have loved to have had around her dining room table perfectly set with her coordinated china.
Margaret Brown Slout left this world peacefully on Sept. 13, 2018 in the presence of loving family and with her faith for a new and glorious life with Jesus.
Memorial service to be announced. Memorial contributions can be made to Pioneer United Church or The Rio Grande Hospital.
