Local author releases new book

ALAMOSA — James Wosochlo is excited to announce the release of his new book, “Appalachian Schaumboch's Tavern.”

Wosochlo is a local author who lives in Alamosa. He has always been interested in history, and his novel “Appalachian” is based on true events.

The book tells the story of Matthias Schaumboch who was the owner of a tavern in Pennsylvania back in 1850. It is said that Schaumboch is America's first undocumented serial killer.

It is believed that he used his tavern to lure in unsuspecting travelers and peddlers and rob and murder them in order to survive. Though the murders are undocumented, Schaumboch did provide a death-bed confession of these murders. Authorities were aware of rumors; however, they did not take the death-bed confession seriously because he was dying of dementia.

After Schaumboch’s death in 1889, his property was sold. It was after the property was sold, that a gruesome discovery was made. William and Anne Turner, the new owners of the property, discovered human remains in all four water wells on the property. The human remains, corroborated the confession that Schaumboch had given.

Wosochlo brings this story to life in his riveting novel of “Appalachian.” At this time, he has also been contacted by production companies in hopes to possibly bring his story to life on screen, as well as in theaters. He has also received emails and social communications from around the world with questions and intrigue about his novel.

“Appalachian” is currently in a screenwriting contest in Los Angeles and was accepted into the Philadelphia Film Festival located in Philadelphia. “Appalachian” can be purchased at numerous book stores worldwide.

His next novel titled, “Unexhumed,” is currently in publication, and Wosochlo hopes to have this book out for sale before October of this year, just in time for Halloween.
