Letter to the Editor: Sargent Community

To the editor,

As you well know our country is in a state of emergency and our State and County are taking great precautions to keep the curve low and avoid an outbreak that could not be handled by our health care system. We know the severity of the situation and want to be cautious and prudent in doing our part to help keep our students, staff, community and elderly safe from any harmful effects of the COVID-19 virus. With safety in mind, the Sargent School District will be turning to online instruction beginning after spring break and going until April 16, at which time it will be re-evaluated. We know that the many changes we are all facing creates huge impositions in our lives, but at the same time we must all take responsibility for our communities and our health.

Staff will have some training and preparation Monday, March 23, and begin online classes Tuesday the 24th, this may be done on-site or remotely at the staff members preference.

Students will not be allowed at school during this time except in small groups to retrieve any books or laptops that may be needed for learning. Students may report to collect these materials Monday the 23rd as follows:  Last name A-G 9 a.m.,  H-M 9:30 a.m.,  N-S 10 a.m., T-Z 10:30 at their respective buildings. Students will be accountable for their participation and assignments and it will be reflected in their end of year grades. We realize that this is a new challenge for students to be able to complete assignments online and independently and is certainly another skill that prepares them for post-secondary education. Parents please help your student be responsible for this part of their learning.

CDE has put all state testing on pause for the remainder of this school year as well as their accountability system and school report cards. CHSAA has placed all spring sports on hold until April 18. As we follow all state and county guidelines, some school events, trips, and activities will be postponed until further notice.

We assure you we will do our very best to continue to offer your child the exceptional educational experiences that you expect from Sargent School District. Please feel free to contact your child’s teacher/Principal/or myself anytime if you need clarification or if we can assist in any way.

Thank you for your continued support.
Brian Crowther / Sargent School District Superintendent
