Letter to Editor: Robinson announces run for Rio Grande County Sheriff

Editor,

My name is Anne Robinson, and I’m running for Rio Grande County Sheriff. I have 37 years of experience in law enforcement, almost 32 of which have been in service to the people of the State of Colorado with the Colorado State Patrol. I’ve worked in the metro area, the mountains, on an interstate, and in rural communities. I recently retired at the rank of Sergeant Major. I have experience in various aspects of law enforcement including dispatch/communications, jail, administration, supervision, and public relations. I worked for the Colorado State University Police Department, National Park Service, Clear Creek County Sheriff’s Office, Valley County (Idaho) Sheriff’s Office, as well as the Colorado State Patrol.

I grew up in a farm community where my father taught me the value of community service. He felt strongly about taking care of the community and he retired from the local volunteer fire department after more than 40 years as a member. He also gave his time as a fire district board member and treasurer. I feel strongly about that kind of work ethic and choose to be a good neighbor through my actions. Having been a victim of crime myself, I don’t want people to feel “revictimized” by receiving poor service or their needs not being met.

I’ve built strong partnerships with local law enforcement agencies, other government entities, businesses, and community members over the 21 years I’ve been in the San Luis Valley. I’ve responded to community concerns, solving problems through partnerships if I or my agency alone couldn’t do it. I feel law enforcement officers should be representative of the community they serve and be a part of that community. We have a responsibility to take ethical action on behalf of the people who live, work, recreate, or travel through this county.

I’ve been active in several local non-profit organizations including being a board member for the San Luis Valley Boys and Girls Club, President of Trail Wise Back Country Horsemen, President of Covered Wagon Days, and as the Merchandise Chairperson for the Rio Grande Chapter of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.

I’d appreciate your support and if elected I would work toward bringing professional, dedicated, and caring law enforcement to Rio Grande County.

Anne Robinson
