MONTE VISTA— The 14th Annual Kids’ Crane Festival will be held Saturday, Oct. 6 at the Monte Vista National Wildlife Refuge.
Lunch will be served from 12-12:30 p.m. for the entire family. After lunch, activities will include a puppet show, migration and pollination games, archery, birdwatching, a scavenger hunt, origami, nest and egg hunts, and the opportunity to learn about some of the animals that live on our local refuges. The auto loop of the Monte Vista Refuge is now open for hiking and bicycling. Families are encouraged to bring their bicycles (and helmets) and ride or hike the loop together.
A highlight of the Kids’ Crane Festival is the opportunity to see migrating Sandhill Cranes that visit the refuge every autumn and spring.
The refuge is located approximately seven miles south of Monte Vista on Route 15.
The festival will be held rain or shine. No reservations are necessary, but children must be accompanied by an adult.
