Kern awarded CCOERA scholarship

SARGENT— Jessica Kern, a recent graduate of Sargent High School, has been selected as a recipient of the Colorado County Officials and Employees Retirement Association’s (CCOERA) 2018 Scholarship Award. Kern, along with five other winners throughout the state of Colorado, will receive $500 annually from CCOERA for the next four years dedicated toward college expenses.

CCOERA scholarship recipients are judged on their involvement in school and community as well as the demonstration of leadership and initiative throughout their high school careers.

“Jessica’s scholarship application was exceptional, “said Marv Tuttle, CCOERA’s interim executive director. “She clearly provided a strong and well-rounded body of scholastic and leadership activities, showing a continued commitment to excellence which will continue to sustain her in her remaining collegiate years.”

While at Sargent, Kern graduated at the top of her class. She was active in Future Business Leaders of America, National Honor Society and Student Council. She will attend Colorado School of Mines in Golden and major in biomedical engineering. She is the daughter of Jody and Randy Kern of Del Norte.

Established in 1968 and celebrating its 50th anniversary, CCOERA is a non-profit association established by Colorado statute for the primary purpose of administering and maintaining governmental retirement plans offered to officials and employees of 220 Colorado counties, municipalities and special districts.

The CCOERA Scholarship Award, now in its 12th year, is designed to support and further the collegiate careers of active employees or children of county employees enrolled in a CCOERA retirement plan. Over 70 scholarships totaling approximately $125,000 have been provided since the program’s inception.
