MONTE VISTA— Joel Christopher Tonso passed away unexpectedly on Sept. 4, 2019 in Monte Vista, CO. He was born on March 8, 1959 to Joe and Jessie Tonso. He was married to the love of his life, Becky Tonso.

Joel had a smile that no one can forget and brought joy wherever he went. He enjoyed everything outdoors and had an adventurous spirit. He loved to ski and snowboard in the winters and enjoyed working as a snowboard instructor and supervisor for 19 years at Wolf Creek. He especially loved boating and spending time at the lake with his family and friends. Some of his greatest memories were made traveling to his favorite places, Cabo, Mexico and Vegas.He was loved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed.

Joel is survived by his wife, Becky Tonso; brother John Tonso and sister Janette Bradham; sons Ronnie Swartz and Kevin May; brother-in-laws Sam (Lynne) Suazo, Elmo (Stevie) Suarzo, Dennis (Bernadette) Suazo and John Tonso and granddaughter Rayanna May.

 He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Jerry Tonso, and two sisters.

Funeral Services will be held at Strohmayer’s Funeral Home, 205 S. Broadway, Monte Vista, CO 81144, on Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2019 at 12 p.m. Please join the family for a meal following the funeral service at Rusty and Connie Strohmayer’s house at 2067 W. Hwy 160, Monte Vista, CO 81144.
