Host Pirates drop Center, 11-5

MONTE VISTA— A five-run sixth inning lifted Monte Vista to an 11-5 victory over Center in Tuesday baseball action.
Center enjoyed a brief lead in the second frame but the Pirates answered and tied the game up at three in the bottom of the third inning including an RBI single by Marcus Chavez. Chavez, who had three runs batted in, Tristen Holder and Enrique Ortiz had multiple hits for Monte Vista, including singles by all three in the decisive sixth inning.
The host Pirates ran wild on the base paths with eight stolen bases, led by Colby Self with two.
Chavez earned the win on the mound surrendering just two runs on two his and striking out three in four innings of work. Pedro Ortiz started the game, giving up three runs on no hits and striking out five in three frames.
Mortensen took the loss for the Vikings in spite of 11 strikeouts.
