MONTE VISTA — Two outstanding Monte Vista High School seniors, Angelo Rodriguez and Grace Beckner who excelled in academics, athletics and community service, were awarded the Glen E. Martinez Memorial Scholarship of $1,000 each on May 21. The funds will assist these seniors in their journey to pursue a higher education.

This scholarship program began in 2009 to commemorate Martinez, a sergeant in the United States Marine Corps. Martinez was a Monte Vista High School graduate, the son of Ron and Carol Martinez who set up the scholarship in Glen’s memory. An annual 5K walk/run and veterans golf tournament helps to provide funds for the scholarships.
