The Adams State University Center presented a flag in conjunction with Monte Vista Kids Connection at the Thursday, Sept. 21 meeting of the city council. Councilor and Adams State Assistant Veteran/Military Affairs Coordinator Joe Schlabach, and Adams State Veterans Affairs Coordinator Kirsten Salazar presented the flag to Chief John Rosecrans. The flag is meant to honor police officers and also in memory of the first responders on 9/11.
“One of the things that stuck with me is that while there was a lot of people running away from the building there was also a small group running towards the buildings. Those people were running right into the face of death and they did it to protect and serve and save lives. That has always left an impact on me...We appreciate everything that police officers do. Every day you walk out there and put yourselves between us and danger and we appreciate that,” said Schlabach.
