Congratulations to Nightingale Luminaries

SAN LUIS VALLEY—Valley-Wide Health Systems (VWHS) would like to congratulate LouAnn Cheslock-Skinner and Nadia Yanez for recently being named Nightingale Luminaries. According to the Colorado Nurses Foundation, the Nightingale Luminary theme is “Excellence in Nursing Professional Engagement & Citizenship.”
Both Cheslock-Skinner and Yanez embody this theme in their everyday roles within Valley-Wide Health Systems and their nominations are a testament to their professionalism and commitment to excellence.

LouAnn Cheslock-Skinner
Cheslock-Skinner has been with VWHS for the past 15 years and works with the Nurse Family Partnership program. “She demonstrates the traits of a servant leader and visibly displays the passion she has to care for a vulnerable population,” said Dr. Denise Trujillo, director of nursing. “This includes first-time mothers and infants.”
“LouAnn has a calling in her life and that calling is nursing,” said Greta Roberts, who supervises the Nurse Family Partnership and submitted a nomination on Cheslock-Skinner’s behalf. “She remains current with her latest instructional Nurse Family Partnership classes and puts that knowledge into practice daily by serving women who are pregnant with their first baby.”

Nadia Yanez
Yanez currently serves as the nursing manager at Valley-Wide Cesar Chavez Family Medical Clinic in Center. As part of this role, she is directly responsible for managing the daily operations of the nursing staff, teambuilding, and safe nursing practices.
“Nadia nursing knowledge and work ethic is unparalleled,” said Dr. Trujillo, who submitted Yanez’s nomination. “She enjoys sharing her knowledge with her peers and educates patients on population health in an effort to improve outcomes while decreasing unnecessary clinic visits. The population served under her directive have gained a wealth of education on diabetes management and wound care resulting in improved health.”
Both of these nurses will attend the Nightingale Luminary Awards Gala on May 12 in Denver. They are seen as true assets that live the VWHS values. Congratulations on this prestigious honor.
