Community VBS held in Monte Vista

MONTE VISTA—“Here Comes Jesus,” this year’s annual Monte Vista Community Vacation Bible School (VBS), took place the week of June 19. Children, ages pre-school through fifth grade, enjoyed bible stories, crafts, snacks, games and music focused on five miracles of Jesus.
Under the direction of Melody Wittner, a combined effort of approximately 20 staff members (including adults, middle and high schoolers) helped the week go smoothly with fun, fun and more fun! The children learned that the Bible is full of miracles that God has done and that He still performs miracles today.
The continuing annual outreach to the local food bank was supported as the children brought canned goods each day throughout the week. A love offering taken each day went towards Migrant Education here in the Valley. Migrant Education provides services to ensure that migratory children receive full and appropriate opportunities to meet the same challenging state academic content and student academic achievement standards that all children are expected to meet.
On Friday evening, loved ones came with the children and enjoyed listening to what the children had learned. The older children read about the five miracles discussed throughout the week. Each reading was followed by a song that focused on that particular miracle. A delicious supper followed with an array of wonderful desserts brought by the parents and staff – a great family time enjoyed by all.
VBS staff members would like to thank Safeway of Monte Vista and the Alamosa Walmart for their support of the MV Community VBS this year. A big thanks also goes to the Rio Grande National Forest Service for the beautiful posters that display even more miracles that God has made to enjoy. The First Christian Church congregation is appreciated for lovingly opening the doors of their building each year to be used throughout the week for VBS and for monetary donations from their church as well as from The United Methodist Church. Thanks also to individuals who help support VBS each year.
It is hoped that each child and their family will find and commit to a church home throughout the year. See everyone next June!
