Colorado Ice Works ‘thanks’ frontline workers in ice sculpture

ALAMOSA — Colorado Ice Works, in its delivery of sculptures to the annual Alamosa Rio Frio Ice Fest, wanted to do something “above and beyond,” and they created and donated a beautiful bouquet of flowers suspended in mid-ice with a heartfelt “Thank You” to the frontline healthcare workers at SLV Health’s Regional Medical Center.
“The donation came at a perfect time to boost the morale of our hard-working staff,” commented Roberta Bean, Chief Nursing Officer of SLVH, noting that the nurses have been praising this heartwarming gesture.
SLV Health partners with the Alamosa Parks and Recreation each year to sponsor one of the downtown ice sculptures to offer something unique and fun for the whole family each January.
Along with a 5K Rio Frio race, a bicycle fat tire race has been added to the festivities.  Due to careful planning during a pandemic, some of the normally “crowded” events are being held virtually this year, but the sculptures were in place for everyone’s enjoyment.
