City of Monte Vista having two clean-up days.

MONTE VISTA — The City of Monte Vista will be holding two clean-up days. These days occur annually and this year the dates are Sept. 30, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Oct. 1, from 8 a.m., to 12 p.m.

Monte Vista residents can take their trash and debris to the City of Monte Vista Public Works Yard, 384 Ski Hi Trail, on these dates for free.

There will be dumpsters to collect the trash and waste. A list of prohibited items that cannot be dumped includes hazardous waste, such as fuels and toxic waste, including batteries and all electronics, for example, computers, TV’s, cell phones, radioactive waste, and any waste including free liquids such as paint, oil, or antifreeze, appliances that contain refrigerant like refrigerators and freezers, are also prohibited and so are tires.

Acceptable items to dump at the site include household trash, metal, appliances such as stoves, washers, dryers, wood is also acceptable, including limbs, and construction products.

For safety, employees will not assist in unloading any waste that is not in a bag or container. Employees will also not assist by climbing onto trucks or trailers.

The San Luis Valley Regional Landfill is not sponsoring these clean-up days. This is not a free dump day, and waste will only be thrown for free if it is taken to the Public Works Yard on the dates and times specified.
