City hires Taylor as Recreation Director

MONTE VISTA — The City of Monte Vista recently announced the hiring of Dervin Taylor as its new Recreation Director.

“This is going to be an awesome job and I think the best part will be the people that I get to work with,” Taylor stated.

Taylor was born in Mansfield, La., where he lived until he was 5 years old. His family moved to Colorado Springs where he grew up and attended Harrison High School.

He played and lettered in football, basketball and baseball. He played football at Northern Colorado and finished college at Southern Colorado earning a bachelor’s in Recreation Management.

After college he worked as a program coordinator at Meadows Park Community for the City of Colorado Springs. He was primarily responsible for coordinating programs geared toward economically disadvantaged youth and adults that included sports, preschool 3-5 year olds afterschool program for elementary aged youth.

Taylor developed relationships with the community and encouraged their participation and input in programs that would enhance their quality of and appreciation for life.

Taylor spent the last 15 years as the Adams State University women’s softball coach. 

“Recreation is a critical part of any community. Our youth will have a strong role model and mentor as Dervin works with them, as well as the parents, coaches, referees, and the many volunteers that support us. We are thrilled to have Dervin join our city team,” said City Manager Gigi Dennis.
