Chamber of Commerce meets the community

MONTE VISTA— The Monte Vista Chamber of Commerce held their first ever meet and greet on Friday, Oct. 13. A group of community and government leaders attended the event at the newly renovated Sandhill Inn and Suites to meet the chamber and learn more about upcoming projects.

The chamber also took the opportunity to introduce their two new employees. Jerry Apker is the new office manager, and Ginny Silcox is the new assistant events coordinator. With their assistance the office will soon be open from 8 a.m.-12 p.m. and again from 1-5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

“We’re trying to move the Monte Vista Chamber forward. Our main goal is to improve the community. We have a lot of upcoming projects. We will be hosting a health expo on Nov. 18…(several organizations have been invited and there will be a plethora of information on health related issues). We’re also working on the Ag Conference.

We’re also trying to reach out to the community. We have adopted a highway, and we do a highway cleanup four months out of the summer. We also help the Kids Connection with the pancake breakfast. It’s not only what we can receive from the community but we want them to know we’re here to help too,” said Chamber President Linda Burnett.

“We’re here. We want Monte Vista to grow and to shine,” said Burnett.

Community leaders and chamber members engaged in much side conversation about what can be done to improve the downtown business district of Monte Vista and make the city a destination rather than a passing site.

Some ideas were to use the Ski Hi area more days out of the year, figure out a new swimming pool facility, helping to expand the local farmers market, recruiting business, promoting community events and creating an identity for Monte Vista.

Businesses and individuals are encouraged to become members of the revamped Monte Vista Chamber of Commerce. To learn more, please visit www.montevistachamber.org.
