Banner stations up and ready

The banner stations are now up at the west end of Chapman Park and the south end of Marsh Park in Monte Vista. The banner stations were a project lead by Jim Clare with the Monte Vista Chamber as a more permanent, visible way to tell visitors and locals alike about upcoming events.
The San Luis Valley Rural Electric Co-op (SLV REC) donated $1,500 in labor installing the banner poles and inspecting the areas around them for lines. The Rotary also donated $600 and the Monte Vista Chamber of Commerce donated $500.
The CEO of SLV REC, Loren Howard, divides their roughly 50 employees into different workgroups. Each workgroup completes a community project and contributes to an internal project as well. Michelle Trujillo with the workgroup that donated the labor for the project, called the banner stations “Great for the city and beneficial for the Monte Vista community to notify people of what’s going on.” Other members of the workgroup included Foreman Wade Warman, Ben Osburn, Jacob Cadwell, Kurt Taffin, Manuel Garcia, Ernesto Villaba and Terry Daley. Lowell Bolt and Rob Vance with the City of Monte Vista Public Works department also assisted them through the installation process.
If you have an event or need more information about advertising on the banner stations, please contact the City of Monte Vista at 852-2692 or the Monte Vista Chamber of Commerce at 852-2731.
