Area youth spring into Rio Water Camp

DEL NORTE — The Rio Grande Watershed Conservation & Education Initiative and the Alpine Achievers Initiative hosted two days of water camp during spring break for children from the Monte Vista Kids Connection. The camps took place at the Del Norte City Park, which gave the kids a chance to personally interact with the Rio Grande River.
The goal of the water camps was to create an outdoor learning environment for kids to get to know the San Luis Valley water systems. Kids in grades K-6 played water games, cleaned up trash along the riverfront, and learned about how water in the Valley is used and protected.
The K-2 kids also participated in the river and riparian study trailer that gave them a close up and hands-on experience with the model of the watershed.
RGWCEI and AAI were happy to partner with the city of Del Norte and Kids Connection to provide the fun opportunity.
