Area youth capture honors in the Rockies Baseball Skills Challenge

MONTE VISTA—Over 15 participants took part in the Rockies Baseball Skills Challenge competition hosted by Monte Vista Recreations Dept. on Saturday, June 24 at the Monte Vista Middle School field.
The following eight youngsters earned first place honors in their respective age groups.

Boys
Ages 6/7: Tyler LePlatt, Monte Vista
Ages 8/9: Maddox Moore, La Jara
Ages 10/11: Azariah Hurtado, Center
Ages 12/13: Francisco Ruybal, Alamosa

Girls
Ages 6/7: Maddison Moore, La Jara
Ages 8/9: Tiffany LePlatt, Monte Vista
Ages 10/11: N/A
Ages 12/13: N/A
These eight winners now move on to a sectional competition to be held (date, time, location) where they could qualify for the State Championship on Aug. 5 to be held at Coca-Cola All Star Park in Lakewood, Colo. All state finalists will then be invited to attend the Colorado Rockies vs. the Philadephia Phillies game that evening at Coors Field.
The Rockies Baseball Skills Challenge program allows youngsters to showcase their talents in base running, batting and throwing with scores based on speed, distance and accuracy. The Rockies Baseball Skills Challenge is a youth program of the Colorado Parks and Recreation Association with the support of the Colorado Rockies baseball club.
