American Legion Riders’ Pony Express Run held

SAN LUIS VALLEY— The American Legion Riders held their annual national fundraising run this past weekend throughout the country and the state of Colorado. The Pony Express Motorcycle Run follows the historic mail route, bringing chapters of Legion Riders together to raise scholarship money for children of veterans killed in combat or who are at least 50 percent disabled from a combat injury. The new San Luis Valley chapter of American Legion Riders Post 113 raised over $400 and riders statewide raised over $8,500 for the scholarship fund.
The American Legion Riders started in 1933 but became officially recognized by the legion in 2007. The local riders, who just received their charter in May, are the newest chapter in the state of Colorado and are in need of more riders. “All members of The American Legion Riders shall be current members of The American Legion, American Legion Auxiliary or Sons of The American Legion,” must own an insured motorcycle and must meet other requirements set by the national American Legion organization and the local post.
For more information on how to join or help the post serve and honor veterans and their families, please contact Bob Galey, president of ALR Post 113 at 248-421-0501.
ALR Post 113 would like to thank Widowmaker Apparel, Bucks and Bulls Archery and the Monte Vista Rotary Club for their generous donations, making this weekend’s run possible.
