Alleged child sex offender arrested in Monte Vista

MONTE VISTA — An alleged child sex offender was arrested Wednesday, July 14, in Monte Vista, the Monte Vista Police Department reported.

On Wednesday, July 14, Anthony Lucero, 37, of Monte Vista was arrested for suspicion of sexual assault on a child and several other warrants, including being a parole absconder.

The arrest of Lucero was the result of a multi-agency task force led by the US Marshals to find and apprehend violent offenders. Locally, members of the Monte Vista Police Department and the Rio Grande County Sheriff’s Office are assigned to the task force on a part-time basis.

Lucero was wanted for an alleged sexual assault of a child stemming from a September 2020 incident that was investigated by the Monte Vista Police Department. As well, Lucero was on parole at the time of the incident and had absconded from parole. A warrant was issued for Lucero in May 2021, charging him with the sexual assault of a child.

The multi-agency task force along with uniform members of Monte Vista Police Department, Rio Grande Sheriff’s Office and the Colorado State Patrol assisted in the arrest. He was taken into custody without incident.

“The arrest of Lucero is the result of great cooperation by multiple agencies to remove violent offenders from the streets of Monte Vista and Rio Grande County,” stated MVPD Chief George Dingfelder.
