Alamosa and Monte Vista golf compete in Regionals

COLORADO CITY — Tuesday morning 14 teams teed off at HollyDot Golf Course competing in the 3A Boys Region 1 Invite. Both Alamosa and Monte Vista had competed at Holly Dot the week prior. In regional play Alamosa missed Donny Chavez adding 19 strokes to the team total of 256 to take sixth place. Monte Vista streamlined their team score from a week prior to score 277 and take ninth at regionals.
According to the CHSAA Golf Bulletin two full teams and 13 individual qualifiers will make it from each Regional Tournament. Those 21 golfers from the four regions will make up the 84 that will compete for state at Boulder Country Club on Oct. 1-2.
While the official announcement has not yet been made, it appears as though Alamosa will send two individual qualifiers to state, and Monte Vista will send one. Colorado Academy and La Junta claimed the top two team spots meaning the boys from the Valley would need to get in with the 13 to see state play.
From Alamosa Colton Liddell and Brenden Crowther each tied at 13th overall with 83 strokes. Both boys excelled on different parts of the course. Liddell got into a groove on holes 12 through 18 scoring a birdie on hole 15. And Crowther found his rhythm on holes five through 9 picking up a birdie of his own at hole 8.
Monte Vista also placed a golfer in the aforementioned window. Casin Holder finished in a three-way tie for fifteenth place with 84 strokes. Holder picked up two birdies and was on par for four other holes going out, which saved his day. Things slowed for Holder on the back nine, where he was only able to find par once.
The gatekeeper on the individual 13 from Region 1 looks to be Dylan McTaggart of Lamar who finished 20th overall with 88 strokes. Look for the official announcement on CHSAA.com as 3A wrapped their regional play on Sept. 19.
