MONTE VISTA — Baby goats were the stars of the first 3rd Friday Art Walk of the season in downtown Monte Vista on May 20.

About six art vendors were at the Art Walk during the four-hour event. Some downtown businesses also offered discounts during the Art Walk.

Hands-on activities and belly dancers were part of it, but the baby goats of White Shell Mountain Ranch drew plenty of attention.

White Shell Mountain Ranch specializes in goat milk soap products. The ranch raises dairy and fiber goats and was also organizing play dates for goats with children along with grazing projects.

“Children really like the goats, and this is a neat activity for all,” said owner Amity Nicholson. Children were petting the goats behind a fenced area on Adams Street. Nicholson held the goats and shared them with the children.

Artist and photographer Robin James was also at the Art Walk and said it was a good day, despite the wind.

“This is a good day for artists to be here. Everything is going good, and we have had a few people come by despite the wind,” James said.

James had many of her pieces for sale. She said her inspiration comes from the traveling she has done.

The Novel Nomads are a belly dancing group, and they danced in front of their tent and enjoyed the wind and the people walking on Adams Street.

Puck Noller and his wife were on Adams Street with many of their water coloring drawings and other paintings to share.

Monte Vista resident Tiffany Stevenson said the Art Walk was an effective way for artists to display their work.

“I really enjoy these Art Walks. The walks showcase many local artists, and this fest is a good time for all, even people who just want to look at and not purchase art, it's beautiful,” Stevenson said. “Someone said it might snow this weekend, but so far, I am just enjoying this breeze here at the Art Walk. I will definitely be here for the next few Art Walks that are coming up as well. I can't resist the art or the baby goats.”

The 3rd Friday Art Walks will take place June 17, July 15, and Aug. 19, from 4-8 p.m. For more information, visit the 3rd Friday Art Walk Facebook page.
